Pep Talk: The Growth Mindset
Transcript [1:47]
Hello Class. This is Mr. Lipthratt. Today, I want to talk about that thing in your head. That’s right - your brain.
But before we do that, I want you to picture a seed. You plant the seed and you water it. You fertilize it and you care for it. You put in the work to make sure that, eventually, that seed turns into a plant, and that plant begins to grow fruit. And now, because of your effort and hard work, you can enjoy the the sweet taste of a delicious fruit that you grew all by yourself.
Well, this seed is like your brain. There are tiny things called neurons that travel through your brain. These neurons carry information, and the more you study and the harder you work, the faster and stronger your neurons become.
Now, some people think that it doesn’t matter how hard you work. They think that your brainpower just stays the same no matter how much effort you put into your learning. This is just not true. This is like planting a seed and just expected it to grow without caring for it.
So, I want you to believe that working harder makes you smarter. Scientists call this the growth mindset. As you complete your assignments this week, remember, your brain is like a seed. The more you care for it, the more you give it, the more your brain will grow.
Have a great week.
